Two Beaumont men have been sentenced to federal prison for their involvement in an armed robbery, as announced by U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs. Brandon Tyrone Mayberry, 22, and Daniel James Leatherwood, 21, both pleaded guilty to charges of Hobbs Act Robbery, aiding and abetting, and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
On October 31, 2024, Mayberry received a sentence of 70 months for the robbery charge and 84 months for the firearms violation, resulting in a total of 154 months in federal prison. Leatherwood was sentenced to 33 months for the robbery and 84 months for the firearms violation, totaling 117 months. U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone ordered that both sentences be served consecutively.
Court documents reveal that in April 2023, Leatherwood and Mayberry entered a Game X Change store on Dowlen Road in Beaumont and committed the robbery at gunpoint.
This case was prosecuted under the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which is a joint federal, state, and local initiative aimed at reducing violent crime. The PSN program focuses on identifying the most pressing violent crime issues in communities and collaborating to develop effective solutions. It emphasizes enforcement efforts against the most violent offenders while partnering with local prevention and reentry programs for long-term crime reduction.
The investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Beaumont Police Department, Nederland Police Department, and Liberty Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Tommy L. Coleman in cooperation with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
