Reports have been released regarding the deaths of two inmates at the Henderson County Jail, prompting investigations by the Texas Rangers.
The first inmate, 79-year-old Billy Angus Lide from Brownsboro, had been in custody since June 19, 2024, facing charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, indecency with a child, and delivery of a controlled substance/marijuana to a minor. Lide died in a Henderson County hospital after a prolonged stay due to an injury that had become septic. According to the custodial death report from the Texas Attorney General’s office, Lide was admitted to the hospital on September 20 for an arm injury, having a reported history of an abscess. After being placed on a ventilator due to sepsis, he was taken off on October 11, but was pronounced dead at 1:12 a.m. on October 12.
The second inmate, 48-year-old Brian Allen Walters from Eustace, had been incarcerated since May 15, 2024, for possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence. His custodial death report indicates he was found unresponsive on the floor of his cell during morning medical checks at 8:30 a.m. on September 29. Medical staff initiated life-saving procedures until EMS arrived, but Walters was pronounced dead at 9:39 a.m. at a nearby hospital. Preliminary autopsy results identified hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease as the cause of death.
Both cases are currently under investigation by the Texas Rangers.
