On October 29, 2024, at approximately 6:35 PM, Sulphur Springs Police officers responded to an assault incident at 390 Hillcrest Drive N., specifically at the Wild Cats practice football field located behind Barbara Bush Primary School. The suspect, identified as Charla Roberts, remained at the scene.
Upon arrival, officers observed a large crowd gathered to watch the youth football practice. The complainant reported that Roberts confronted her aggressively over the complainant's recording of the practice session. After the complainant asked Roberts to step back, citing an invasion of her personal space, Roberts refused to comply. In an effort to create distance, the complainant pushed Roberts away with her hands.
Roberts then struck the complainant on the right side of her face, causing pain and visible bruising around the right eye. A bystander intervened to separate the two. The altercation was witnessed by an off-duty police officer, who confirmed that Roberts was the aggressor in the incident.
Charla Lee Roberts, 37, was arrested and taken to Hopkins County Jail, where she was booked without incident. She has been charged with Assault Causes Bodily Injury, with her bond set at $2,000.
