On Monday, October 28th, Tyler Police officers responded to a welfare call in the 700 block of Chimney Rock Drive in South Tyler at approximately 1:25 PM. Upon arrival, officers discovered two deceased men identified as 45-year-old Anthony Gyallai and his 88-year-old father, Otto Gyallai.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Anthony shot Otto before turning the gun on himself.
“A family friend called us wanting to check on the welfare of the two elderly residents, along with the son, who lives here,” stated Andy Erbaugh of the Tyler Police Department. “We have information that the son may have been involved in drugs or something drug-related.”
Officers found Otto in the living room and Anthony in a back bedroom, where he had inflicted a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Otto's wife was asleep in the bedroom at the time of the incident and did not hear anything; she was unharmed.
Investigators are treating the case as a murder-suicide, and the investigation is ongoing.
