A Port Arthur convicted felon has been sentenced to federal prison for firearms and drug trafficking violations in the Eastern District of Texas, as announced by U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs. Jacob Jermaine Alpough, 42, pleaded guilty to charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. He received a sentence of 78 months in federal prison from U.S. District Judge Michael Truncale on October 28, 2024.
The court heard that on October 10, 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Alpough’s residence on West 5th Street. At the time, he was the sole occupant. Officers discovered two tightly wrapped packages containing approximately one kilogram of cocaine under the dining room table and another kilogram in a food storage container in the kitchen. Additionally, a semi-automatic pistol was found on the living room floor, near where Alpough had been sleeping. The firearm was equipped with an extended magazine containing 17 rounds of ammunition.
As a convicted felon with three prior felony convictions for possession of a controlled substance and a conviction for intoxicated assault, Alpough is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.
This case was prosecuted as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, a collaborative initiative aimed at reducing violent crime by targeting the most violent offenders and working with local prevention and reentry programs. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, in conjunction with the Port Arthur Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Quinn.
