Younus Hassen, a 21-year-old defendant, was sentenced to 10 years in prison following a guilty plea in an aggravated robbery case. The incident began when Hassen shoplifted candy from a 7-Eleven store. Upon being confronted by the store manager, he brandished a pistol and fled the scene.
The manager promptly called 911, leading to a quick response from the Garland Police Department, who located Hassen's vehicle. Officers recovered the firearm, which had been modified with a “switch” device, allowing it to function as a fully automatic machine gun.
After being arrested, Hassen was released on bond but was subsequently arrested again by Lewisville Police for unlawfully carrying an AK pistol and possession of a controlled substance, specifically fentanyl. This second arrest led to his bond being revoked due to inefficiency.
While awaiting resolution of his case, Hassen was involved in multiple incidents while in jail, including fighting, possession of stolen property, and contraband possession. Despite his request for probation, the court sentenced him to 10 years in prison after his guilty plea was accepted on October 2, 2024.
