On Saturday, October 26, at 7:30 AM, a Paris police officer on routine patrol in the 1200 block of East Houston Street observed a cyclist, 60-year-old Christopher Hughes Roberts, run a stop sign. When approached by the officer, Roberts admitted to carrying a knife on him.
Upon the officer's request to retrieve the knife for safety reasons, Roberts fled the scene, prompting a foot chase. Other officers joined in the pursuit and successfully detained him. During the arrest, Roberts revealed that he ran because he had drugs in his pocket.
Roberts was charged with Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance-Meth and Evading Arrest/Detention. His bicycle was taken to the Paris Police Department for safekeeping.
