At approximately 5:30 AM on Friday, October 25, 2024, the Royse City Fire Department's Engine 82 was providing traffic control for an accident on westbound Interstate 30 near Four Brothers when it was hit by an SUV. Fortunately, all crew members inside the fire truck were uninjured.
Following the collision, Engine 82 personnel approached the SUV driver to assess for injuries. The driver claimed to be uninjured but fled the scene on foot while speaking with fire department personnel. The Royse City Police Department was notified of the fleeing driver, prompting a foot chase. Multiple agencies assisted in the search for the suspect, who remains at large, although authorities report there is no threat to the public.
The highway was reopened after the completion of the accident investigation by the Royse City Police Department.
