On Friday, October 25, 2024, Hunt County EMS, along with Lone Oak Police and Fire, and Cash Rescue units, responded to a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 8000 block of Highway 69 South. The incident occurred near Lone Oak High School Stadium during an ongoing football game between Lone Oak and Grand Saline.
The pedestrian, who was attempting to cross the highway, was declared deceased at the scene. According to the school district, the victim was the brother of Marilyn Ross, a beloved staff member at Lone Oak ISD.
In a statement, Lone Oak ISD expressed their condolences: "Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family and friends of the victim, especially Ms. Marilyn Ross. Such a loss is unimaginable, and we stand united in our support for her and her family during this incredibly difficult time." The district also emphasized the importance of exercising caution while driving, particularly in school zones.
