On Saturday, October 26, 2024, Cumby Police Officer Rodgers responded to a report of a firearm displayed during a road rage incident on Interstate 30 westbound at the 118-mile marker. The vehicle in question was located and stopped at the 108-mile marker, where officers made contact with Jacob Mayfield.
Mayfield admitted to engaging in a road rage altercation after becoming offended by a gesture from another driver near the 124-mile marker in Sulphur Springs. He admitted to re-entering the interstate and confronting the other driver by brandishing a firearm, consistent with the initial 911 report. Mayfield was subsequently arrested, and his vehicle was released to a passenger. He was taken to the Hopkins County Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (F2).
