Two Women in Stolen Vehicle Arrested During Traffic Stop in Hopkins County, Charged with Multiple Drug Offenses

On October 19, 2024, Corporal Zack Steward of the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office was conducting routine patrol on Interstate 30 when he observed a black Ford Focus with a temporary tag passing by. A records check on the temporary tag returned no results, leading him to suspect it might be fraudulent. He activated his emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop near the 140 mm EB.

Upon approaching the passenger side, Cpl. Steward made contact with the occupants, identified as Lashunta Marie Jones and Marqeta Deann Robinson. He informed Lashunta of the reason for the stop and stated that he would conduct a records check using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). A subsequent check confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen by the Fort Worth Police Department.

Cpl. Steward then requested that Lashunta exit the vehicle for further discussion. Upon her exit, Deputy Murray detained Lashunta due to her erratic behavior. As the situation unfolded, Lashunta disclosed that she had an electric marijuana cigarette in her purse. During a probable cause search, additional paraphernalia was discovered, along with a pink baggie containing suspected cocaine and three glass vials with a brown liquid found in a bag around her waist.

Lashunta was placed under arrest and transported to the Hopkins County Jail on multiple charges, including Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and several counts related to the possession of controlled substances, including powder cocaine, ecstasy, crack rock, and a liquid substance.

Further investigation of the vehicle led to the discovery of additional drug paraphernalia on the passenger side where Marqeta was seated. Marqeta was taken into custody for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after admitting to having additional narcotics hidden in her bra. Upon transport to the Hopkins County Jail, a female jailer assisted in retrieving the narcotics, which tested positive for cocaine.

Marqeta was subsequently booked into the Hopkins County Jail for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Controlled Substance. All evidence was documented, processed, and secured at the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office.
