In March 2024, Freestone County deputies responded to an armed robbery at the Road Ranger Truck Stop in Dew, Texas, where four masked suspects held the attendant at gunpoint. The suspects stole cash and merchandise before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
Through the investigation led by Sgt. Weinmann, evidence gathered at the scene helped identify at least one of the suspects, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant. With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, the identified suspect was located and apprehended in the Houston area.
The suspect is currently awaiting extradition back to Freestone County on charges of:
- Aggravated Robbery (First Degree Felony)
- Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity with Use/Exhibition of a Deadly Weapon (First Degree Felony)
The investigation remains ongoing, with three additional suspects still at large. Authorities emphasize the importance of cooperation among various law enforcement agencies in resolving major crimes like this one and commend the teamwork that contributed to the suspect's apprehension. Sgt. Weinmann and the initial responding deputies have been recognized for their effective handling of the case.
