On October 15, 52-year-old Shequanta "Shawnee" Rushun Fuller was arrested and charged with injury to a child, elderly, or disabled individual with intent to cause bodily injury. Fuller, who had been substituting for an aide at Sulphur Springs Elementary School, turned herself in to the Hopkins County jail shortly after 1:00 AM following an outstanding warrant.
Reports indicate that Fuller was instructing a special education class at the time of the incident, where a child reportedly sustained bruising from the knees to the face, with significant bruising on the arms. The circumstances leading to the injuries have not been disclosed, and parents are demanding more information from the school district, which has yet to provide details.
Fuller’s bond was set at $25,000. Her employment history, according to her LinkedIn profile, shows that she previously worked as a detention officer for the Panola County Sheriff's Department. Fuller had left her role as a part-time substitute teacher and aide at Sulphur Springs ISD in September. Her Facebook page also lists prior substitute teaching positions at Pine Tree ISD and Longview ISD.
