On Saturday, October 12, 2024, Harrison County deputies responded to a burglary alarm at a local church. While en route, a deputy observed a white male walking nearby and provided identifiers before continuing to the church. Upon arrival, it was found that the door had been kicked in, triggering the alarm.
Other deputies soon located the man, identified as 29-year-old William James Hutchinson of Marshall, Texas. Investigators found a shoeprint at the scene matching the shoes Hutchinson was wearing. After being Mirandized, he confessed to being on the property and admitted he had entered the church while on a long walk, claiming he was searching for water.
Hutchinson was arrested and charged with burglary of a building. This is not his first run-in with the law; he was charged with criminal trespass in May 2024 and possession of illegal drugs and a weapon in July 2023.
