Greenville Police Captain Graduates from Leadership Command College

Captain Terry Robertson, Jr.

Captain Terry Robertson, Jr. of the Greenville Police Department has successfully completed the rigorous Leadership Command College - Class 99 of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT), an elite program designed to equip law enforcement executives with advanced leadership and management skills. This program, one of the premier law enforcement academies in the nation, aims to enhance the leadership capabilities of officers, ensuring they are prepared to manage complex law enforcement agencies and deliver top-tier services to their communities.

The Leadership Command College is a comprehensive three-module program taught by a consortium of Texas universities and led by top national and international experts. Captain Robertson began his journey at Texas A&M University’s Center for Executive Development, where Module I focused on leadership development. This phase provided essential training in effective leadership, ethics, and communication skills, which are critical to law enforcement leadership.

Module II, hosted at Texas Woman’s University, centered on the political, legal, and social environment of law enforcement. This phase emphasized understanding the broader societal and legal contexts in which police agencies operate, covering issues like public policy, legal challenges, and community relations.

The program concluded with Module III at Sam Houston State University, focusing on law enforcement administration. This final module provided comprehensive training in personnel management, organizational behavior, and modern administrative techniques to enhance the efficiency and professionalism of police departments.

The Leadership Command College is known for its focus on contemporary issues in criminal justice, such as the integration of technology in law enforcement, crisis management, and the ethical challenges that police leaders face in today’s environment. The program provides participants with skills to manage their departments effectively and stay ahead of emerging trends in law enforcement.

Since its inception in 1987, LEMIT has been headquartered at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. The program is funded by a surcharge on criminal court costs rather than tax dollars, ensuring that eligible Texas law enforcement leaders can participate without additional financial burdens. The institute trains between 1,000 and 2,000 law enforcement personnel annually through various programs and seminars, including leadership programs for police chiefs and command staff.
