On December 19, 2020, the Sherman Police Department received a missing person report regarding Blake McCoy from his sister. Two days later, detectives began to suspect that Blake may have been a victim of foul play, prompting a week-long investigation.
The efforts of officers, detectives, criminalists, and Sherman Police Department employees culminated in the recovery of Blake's body and the apprehension of the suspect, Roderick Tad Howard. The department expressed pride in the dedication and excellence shown by their team throughout the investigation.
The Sherman Police Department extended its gratitude to partners in the case, including the Texas Rangers and the Grayson County District Attorney's Office, for their assistance in securing a 50-year plea deal for Howard in connection with Blake McCoy's murder.
