On October 3, 2024, at approximately 10:08 PM, Mesquite Police Officers were dispatched to a robbery in progress at the Watermark Apartments, located in the 2600 block of John West Road. The victim reported being robbed at gunpoint by two suspects who also stole his vehicle.
An hour later, at approximately 11:08 PM, a Mesquite Police Officer on routine patrol spotted the victim’s stolen vehicle. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspects fled, leading to a high-speed pursuit. The chase ended when the suspect vehicle collided with a garage inside the Treymore Eastfield Apartments, also situated on John West Road.
Following the collision, both suspects fled the vehicle on foot, prompting a foot pursuit by the officers. During this chase, one officer perceived a deadly threat from one of the suspects and discharged his firearm. It is currently unclear if the suspect was struck by the gunfire, as both suspects continued to evade capture.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made as of this time. The officer involved in the shooting has been with the Mesquite Police Department for four years. The Dallas Police Department is handling the investigation of the Officer Involved Shooting since the incident occurred within their jurisdiction. Additionally, investigators from the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene to conduct a separate and independent investigation. Meanwhile, the Mesquite Police Department is overseeing the investigation into the initial robbery at the Watermark Apartments.
