In collaboration with the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration (ILEA) at The Center for American and International Law (CAIL), the Texas Municipal League (TML), and Farmers Electric Cooperative, the Greenville Police Department recently hosted 45 law enforcement first-line supervisors from 26 agencies for ILEA’s two-week Texas Sergeant Academy. Among the participants were six officers and sergeants from Greenville PD.
Greenville Police Chief Chris Smith stated, "The City of Greenville and the Greenville Police Department are honored to host this prestigious leadership class, celebrating the pursuit of excellence and the power of visionary thinking to first line supervisors from across the great State of Texas."
The Texas Sergeant Academy, established in 2017, is one of ILEA’s premier programs, providing comprehensive leadership training to equip new first-line leaders with essential skills in leadership, communication, ethical decision-making, and supervisory accountability. With police supervisors from various agencies in attendance, this training aims to benefit communities across Texas.
Gregory Smith, ILEA Director, shared, "If an agency needs to implement change or maintain a healthy ethical culture, law enforcement executives must have their first-line leaders on board. The Texas Sergeant Academy will prepare these first-line leaders to implement a department chief executive officer’s vision for their communities and model it for all officers."
Since its inception, more than 700 officers have completed the Texas Sergeant Academy, helping shape future law enforcement leaders across the state.
