On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, a crash in Fannin County resulted in five fatalities and two injuries, according to the Department of Public Safety (DPS). The incident occurred on State Highway 56 near County Road 3212, between Dodd City and the Town of Windom.
The first vehicle involved was a 2006 Honda Civic. The driver, 30-year-old Ernestina Castillo-Alfaro from Bonham, TX, and her four passengers—26-year-old Rosa Trochez-Montenegro, 28-year-old Oneyda Zamora, 23-year-old Jose Urbina, and 57-year-old Nestor Gonzalez-Valerio—were all pronounced deceased at the scene.
The second vehicle involved was a 2024 GMC Sierra C2500. The driver, 48-year-old David Strong from Robinson, TX, and passenger Craig Moody, 62 years old, were both transported to Texoma Medical Center in Denison, TX, with critical injuries.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Honda Civic was traveling eastbound at an unsafe speed, lost control on a curve, and crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding with the GMC Sierra.
The investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time. The incident is being investigated by Trooper L. Rattan of DPS – Bonham.
