A Nederland man, Tarrell Donald Nowlin, 53, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for Hobbs Act robbery, announced U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs. U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone handed down the 240-month sentence on October 1, 2024.
The charges stem from a January 16, 2024, armed robbery at the Speedway Gas Station on Eastex Freeway in Beaumont. According to court documents, Nowlin entered the store, pointed a revolver at the clerk, and demanded money. The clerk complied, and Nowlin made off with approximately $550 in cash. Law enforcement used surveillance footage to identify Nowlin as the assailant.
Further investigation revealed Nowlin was a career offender with three prior robbery convictions. A federal grand jury indicted him on April 3, 2024.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime. The FBI, Beaumont Police Department, and Nederland Police Department led the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Quinn prosecuting.
