Trapped mosquitoes in the Gordon Street and Beverly Drive areas have tested positive for West Nile Virus, prompting the city to initiate a spraying program. Trucks will begin spraying pesticides at dusk for approximately two to three hours on Thursday, September 26, and Friday, September 27, weather permitting. The spraying will occur between 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM each evening.
Residents are advised to stay indoors during these times to minimize exposure. To further reduce the risk of mosquito bites, citizens should apply insect repellent on exposed skin and clothing while outdoors. The city recommends using an EPA-registered insect repellent containing DEET for optimal protection. Additionally, permethrin can be sprayed on clothing for protection that lasts through several washes. Products with a higher concentration of DEET typically provide longer-lasting defense against mosquitoes.
