Rains County Sheriff Michael Hopkins has confirmed that a deputy has been placed on administrative leave following allegations of excessive force against an inmate. The department has requested the Texas Rangers to conduct an investigation into the incident involving a sergeant.
Once the Texas Rangers complete their investigation, Sheriff Hopkins stated that the Rains County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) would carry out an internal review of the matter. In accordance with RCSO policy, the sergeant involved has been placed on administrative leave until the investigation concludes.
