On September 21, 2024, a Prosper Police Officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop after observing a vehicle commit a traffic violation. Upon contacting the occupants, the officer detected the strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle.
All four occupants, who were non-residents, were asked to exit the car. During a subsequent search, officers discovered a THC vape pen, a bottle of suspected codeine, and a loaded handgun. Additionally, one of the occupants was found in possession of a credit card that did not belong to them.
As a result of the investigation, one occupant was arrested for an outstanding warrant, while another was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, and Fraudulent Possession/Use of a Credit/Debit Card. All subjects were transported to jail. This incident highlights the unpredictable nature of traffic stops and the potential for discovering serious offenses during routine enforcement.
