In the early hours of Sunday, September 22, 2024, a traffic stop attempt by Sealy Police on Highway 36 escalated into a high-speed pursuit. The chase, which began around 3:00 a.m., headed north on Highway 36 at dangerous speeds, ending just south of Bellville when the suspect vehicle crashed into the rear of an occupied Bellville Police Department patrol car. Authorities believe the crash was intentional.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was airlifted to a hospital for medical treatment. The Bellville PD officer involved sustained minor injuries and was transported to Mid Coast Medical for evaluation.
Sealy PD was assisted in the incident by the Austin County Sheriff's Office, Bellville PD, and the Texas Department of Public Safety. The investigation is ongoing, with multiple charges pending against the suspect.
