Mosquitoes Test Positive for West Nile Virus in Greenville; Spraying Scheduled

Trapped mosquitoes in the Ridgecrest and Bourland areas have tested positive for West Nile Virus. To address this, trucks will begin spraying in the affected areas at dusk for approximately two to three hours on Wednesday, September 18, Thursday, September 19, and Friday, September 20, weather permitting. Spraying will occur between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. each evening.

Citizens are advised to stay indoors during these times to avoid exposure. To prevent mosquito bites, it is recommended to apply insect repellent on exposed skin and clothing. Use an EPA-registered repellent containing DEET, and consider applying permethrin to clothing for extended protection. Products with higher concentrations of DEET generally provide longer-lasting protection.

Rembmer not to spray repellent on the skin under clothing. Don't use permethrin on the skin; for details on when and how to apply repellent, visit the CDC website: https://www.cdc.gov/westnile/index.html.
