On Friday, September 13, 2024, the Terrell Police Department responded to a report of a missing child. The child, a 10-year-old with autism, had been missing for approximately an hour, heightening the urgency of the situation.
In addition to the Terrell Police, several local agencies and community members joined in the search, including the Terrell Fire Department, Terrell ISD Police, Terrell Fire Marshal’s Office, Terrell Emergency Management Office, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, an investigator from the Kaufman County District Attorney’s Office, Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, CareFlite EMS, and postal workers from the Terrell Post Office. Local citizens also assisted in the search effort.
After an hour of searching and a social media post requesting help, the Terrell Police received 9-1-1 calls reporting possible sightings of the missing child. The child was found 3.5 miles from home in the front yard of a Terrell Police Chaplain.
The child was safely returned to his family, and the Terrell Police Department expressed appreciation for the cooperation of all agencies and citizens involved in the search.
