On September 13, 2024, at approximately 10:15 AM, the Longview Police Department responded to a shooting incident in the 3100 block of McCann Road. Upon arrival, officers found a 20-year-old male victim, Dequalin Vaughn of Longview, suffering from a gunshot wound. Vaughn was transported to a local hospital by Longview EMS but later succumbed to his injuries.
Following an investigation, Longview detectives identified a suspect and discovered that he was also wanted on felony charges from a case in Marshall, TX. The suspect, 23-year-old Eddie Floyd Hill Jr. of Gilmer, was located in Gilmer, TX, and taken into custody without incident.
Hill was booked into the Upshur County Jail on charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (F/3) and Deadly Conduct (F/3) from the Marshall case, as well as Murder (F/1) related to the Longview shooting.
The Longview Police Department expressed gratitude to the Marshall Police Department, Harrison County Violent Crime Task Force, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Gilmer Police Department for their assistance in the apprehension of Hill.
