Early Friday morning, September 13th, Paris Police officers contacted James Octavius Jeffery, 52, in the 400 block of SE 6th. During the encounter, Jeffery consented to a search, and officers recovered a cigarette pack from his front pocket that contained a substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
When the officers attempted to take possession of the cigarette pack, Jeffery snatched it from their hand and fled on foot. He was apprehended shortly after. The substance in the cigarette pack tested positive for methamphetamine.
Jeffery sustained injuries during his arrest and was given first aid at the scene. An ambulance was called, and Jeffery was transported to Paris Regional Medical Center for treatment. After being treated and released, Jeffery was taken back into police custody. He faces charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Evading Arrest.
