On September 11, 2024, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers pursued a stolen box truck, initiating the chase in Forney, Texas. The pursuit spanned multiple counties and concluded in Smith County. Despite several attempts by Texas Highway Patrol (THP) Troopers to disable the vehicle, the suspect continued driving, showing reckless disregard for other motorists. Based on the suspect’s behavior, Troopers believed there was an imminent threat of harm to bystanders.
The pursuit ended on State Highway 31 near Tyler when a THP Trooper discharged his firearm at the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital in Tyler, where he later died. The Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation into the incident.
