On Saturday, September 7, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Sherman Police were dispatched to the 2900-block North Highway 75 regarding a welfare concern. The caller, later identified as the suspect, repeatedly contacted Dispatch stating he didn’t feel right. The Sherman Fire Department responded initially, but the suspect refused treatment and drove away.
Officers located the suspect, 29-year-old Dalton Edgin, in his vehicle. They observed Edgin driving erratically and showing multiple signs of intoxication. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, Edgin fled south on Highway 75. Believing Edgin was intoxicated, officers pursued him.
The chase continued to the 1200-block Preston Drive, where Edgin drove in circles on the front lawn of a residence. Edgin then entered the residence, and officers followed him inside. After a chase and struggle, Edgin was apprehended.
Edgin was taken to a local hospital for a Driving While Intoxicated investigation. While at the hospital, Edgin assaulted one of the officers and threatened to kill all officers present.
Edgin was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Resisting Arrest/Search/Transport, Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, Burglary of a Habitation, Assault on a Peace Officer, and Obstruction or Retaliation.
