Mosquitoes in Bourland Area of Greenville Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Trapped mosquitoes in the Bourland area have tested positive for West Nile Virus. To address the issue, trucks will begin spraying in the affected area at dusk on Wednesday, September 4, Thursday, September 5, and Friday, September 6, weather permitting. The spraying will occur between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm each evening.

The city advises residents to stay indoors during the spraying hours. To prevent mosquito bites, it is recommended to apply insect repellent on exposed skin and clothing when outdoors. Use EPA-registered insect repellents, such as those containing DEET, for effective protection. Permethrin-treated clothing offers protection through several washes. Products with higher DEET concentrations generally provide extended protection.
