Three Juvenile Students of Rains ISD Die in Grayson County Crash

Three juveniles were killed in a three-vehicle collision on Highway 69 on Friday evening.

According to a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) report, at approximately 7:20 p.m., 40-year-old Hyrum Grandy of Lone Oak was driving south on Highway 69 in a Hyundai Elantra. Grandy swerved onto the shoulder to avoid slowing vehicles ahead. After maneuvering around several vehicles, Grandy attempted to re-enter the roadway but collided with a Ford F-150 traveling in the southbound lane. The Hyundai then moved into the northbound lane, where it was struck on the left side by an oncoming Chevrolet Silverado.

The three juveniles who died were passengers in the Hyundai: Amara Grandy, 13; Alexander Grandy, 14; and Alvin Grandy, 10. All three were students at Rains Independent School District (ISD).

Angel Martinez, 34, of Celest, was driving the Ford F-150, and Lane Recer, 29, of Trenton, was driving the Chevrolet Silverado.

Rains ISD issued a statement on Sunday expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the students. The district announced that additional counselors will be available starting Tuesday.

Commerce ISD also expressed their condolences, stating that they will wear blue this Wednesday to honor the Rains ISD students and support the community during this tragic time.
