On August 24, 2024, at approximately 10:28 PM, a traffic stop was conducted on a Chevrolet Silverado due to traffic violations on State Highway 19 near Farm to Market Road 71. The driver, Ismael Garcia Olmedo, showed signs of intoxication and had open containers of alcohol in the vehicle. He was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests.
Garcia Olmedo's driving behavior, statements, and performance on the tests indicated that he was impaired due to alcohol consumption. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI). During a consensual search of his wallet, a plastic bag containing suspected cocaine was found.
Garcia Olmedo was given the DIC statutory warning and agreed to provide breath specimens, which tested at 0.193 and 0.197. He was then taken to the Hopkins County Jail. He faces charges for DWI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 or higher and possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) in an amount between 1 and 4 grams.
