At around 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 27th, Burleson Fire/EMS and Police responded to a major accident in the 1600 block of W. FM 917. According to police, a construction worker and safety flagger was struck by a vehicle while providing traffic control in the area of FM 917.
The worker, identified as 61-year-old Rafael Rios-Cortez, was transported to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, where he was later pronounced deceased from his injuries. Rios-Cortez was a resident of Quinlan, TX.
Authorities have not yet confirmed if the 76-year-old driver involved in the incident is facing any charges. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
