On Thursday, August 22nd, Paris Police Officers responded to a welfare concern call in the 400 block of SW 1st Street. Upon arrival, officers found a verbal altercation taking place between the victim and the suspect, identified as Magic Laone McCarty, 44.
While officers attempted to gather information, McCarty entered a nearby residence in the 600 block of SW 1st Street. Moments later, he exited the house holding a handgun. McCarty began to brandish the weapon, causing fear for the safety of both the officers and the victim. Police officers tried to de-escalate the situation, and McCarty eventually took the gun back inside the house.
McCarty was subsequently arrested for making a terrorist threat to a family member and a peace officer. According to reports, McCarty resisted arrest but was eventually subdued by officers and taken into custody.
The victim informed officers that McCarty had assaulted her by choking her with his hands. Physical evidence was found at the scene that supported these claims. McCarty faces charges of Assault of a Family Member by Impeding Breath, making a terrorist threat to a public servant and family member, and resisting arrest.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time.
