Texas A&M University Police Issue Crime Alert Following Sexual Assault Report

On August 22, 2024, the Texas A&M University Police Department (UPD) was informed of a sexual assault incident at the Garden Apartments. According to the victim, she met the suspect through a dating app, and they went out to dinner together. Following their dinner, they returned to the victim's apartment, where the sexual assault allegedly took place.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-30s, approximately 6 feet tall, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a beard. The victim has opted to participate in the pseudonym program, and no further details are being released at this time.

The UPD encourages anyone with information related to this incident or others to contact the department at 979-845-2345.

The university reiterated that sexual assault is never the fault of the victim and emphasized that only perpetrators can prevent sexual assault. As mandated by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), Texas A&M University is required to issue timely warnings to the campus community about such incidents.

In addition to alerting the public, the university stressed the importance of being aware of behaviors often exhibited by sexual predators. These behaviors include controlling tendencies, becoming angry when personal boundaries regarding physical intimacy are set, ignoring or repeatedly violating these boundaries, and disrespecting individuals who are intoxicated.
