Texarkana Police officers arrested 28-year-old Des Abner earlier this afternoon after observing him walking in the roadway on W. 38th Street. Abner had a gun in the waistband of his pants and refused to stop when officers attempted to speak with him. Recognizing him from previous encounters where he had fled, officers were concerned he might attempt to escape again.
After Abner ignored multiple commands to stop, officers deployed two rounds of JPX pepper spray. As Abner ran, he tripped and was swiftly apprehended. The handgun he was carrying was found to be stolen from Magnolia, Arkansas.
Abner was transported to the Bi-State Jail and faces charges of Theft of a Firearm, Evading Arrest with Previous Conviction, and Walking in the Roadway. His bond has not yet been set for the felony charges.
