The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update regarding an incident involving students from Big Sandy Independent School District (ISD) that occurred on August 19, 2024.
Earlier that day, a fight took place between two students on school grounds. Later in the evening, an alarming situation developed off-campus when one of the students involved in the altercation made threatening communications to another student via a cellular device, specifically referencing gun violence. This information was promptly reported to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon receiving the report, the Sheriff’s Office immediately launched a thorough investigation. As a result, a juvenile was arrested and charged, and the case has been referred to Polk County Juvenile Probation. The investigation did not uncover any evidence suggesting an immediate threat to the school or to the safety of the students and staff at Big Sandy ISD Campus.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Big Sandy ISD Staff take these incidents extremely seriously, and each will be thoroughly investigated. They remain vigilant in ensuring the safety of the community, schools, and children.
