On August 17th, at approximately 11:27 PM, officers from the Sulphur Springs Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a Hyundai vehicle due to expired registration. During the stop, a probable cause search was conducted on both the vehicle and the driver, Jaspen Quayshawn Debase.
During the search, officers discovered a lumpy item, suspected to be marijuana, concealed in the front of Debase's shorts. When officers asked him to remove the item, he attempted to further conceal it by placing his hands inside his pants.
Debase was taken into custody for the expired registration and secured in double-locked handcuffs. Upon arrival at the jail, the lumpy item was retrieved from the floor in the vestibule. The suspected marijuana, weighing approximately 29.50 grams including its packaging, was found within 1,000 feet of Pacific Park, a designated drug-free zone.
Debase was booked for expired registration and possession of marijuana under 20 grams. His bond was set at $2,000.
