Melissa Egger, 45, was arrested by the Texarkana Police Department on Wednesday, August 14th, on charges of Theft over $300,000, a first-degree felony.
The arrest follows a year-long investigation into financial discrepancies reported by a local business in mid-2023. The business, which had employed Egger since 2011 as a bookkeeper and later as office manager, suspected her involvement after discovering irregularities in their financial records.
Egger, who had been a trusted employee managing day-to-day finances, was terminated shortly after the discrepancies came to light. A forensic accountant's audit revealed that Egger had embezzled over $700,000 during her twelve-year tenure. Detective Warren Smith utilized the audit's findings and conducted a further investigation, resulting in an arrest warrant issued earlier this week.
Egger turned herself in on August 14th and was booked into the Bi-State Jail. Her bond has been set at $100,000.
