Two people were killed shortly after 11 p.m. on Monday night, August 5th, in a head-on collision on Hwy 19 in Anderson County. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the preliminary investigation indicates a Toyota Tundra pickup driven by 21-year-old Abimael Santillian of Palestine veered into the northbound lane for undetermined reasons, striking a truck tractor pulling a trailer hauling frozen chicken.
Santillian and his passenger, 19-year-old Tanner Perez, also of Palestine, died at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler, from Brooklyn, New York, was not injured.
