On Saturday, August 3rd, a Paris Police officer observed a vehicle run a stop sign in the 2400 block of Stillhouse Road, narrowly avoiding a collision with the officer’s patrol car. The officer initiated a traffic stop, but the driver fled, accelerating west on NE Loop 286. The driver exited at N. Main and Loop 286, running a red light and colliding with another vehicle in the intersection.
The driver, 31-year-old Ilmi Mehmeti, exited his vehicle and did not attempt to flee further. The driver of the other vehicle involved was injured and transported to medical facilities. Mehmeti and a passenger in his vehicle sustained minor injuries and were evaluated by EMS personnel and cleared.
Mehmeti was found to be intoxicated and admitted to having been drinking at a bar. He was charged with DWI and Evading Arrest in a vehicle, a felony, and was found to have two prior DWI convictions. Consequently, he was also charged with DWI 3rd or More, a felony. Mehmeti was transported without incident.
