Paris officers responded to a report of an assault on Tuesday, July 23rd, in the 2500 block of Bonham St. The victim reported being attacked by a white male named “Billy.” While en route, a Lamar County Deputy encountered Billy Wayne Gray, 46, in the 2100 block of Bonham St. Paris Police officers arrived and identified Gray as the suspect.
According to the victim, he had been at a local park all day where he had a brief interaction with Gray, who had asked for a cigarette. The victim did not have one. Later that evening, around 9:00 pm, the victim fell asleep on a park bench. He was awakened by Gray, who began assaulting him by striking him in the head and mouth with his fist, threatening to kill him. Gray also took the victim’s cane and used it to strike him in the back and head.
The victim managed to flee to his vehicle and contacted the police. He sustained multiple visible injuries, including tooth loss. Gray had marks on his hands consistent with the assault. Gray was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a felony. He was booked without incident.
