Animal Rescue Corps (ARC), a national animal protection nonprofit, responded to a request from an East Texas 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue organization to assist with approximately 60 dogs in immediate need of rescue after the property went into foreclosure and the organization decided to shut down due to the founders' health issues. The group had converted the former Rendezvous Bikini Bar property into a makeshift shelter, but was quickly overwhelmed by the number of homeless animals.
During the third and final deployment, rescuers found 39 dogs inside and outside the facility housed in various pens, cages, and kennels. Some dogs were kept in tarp-covered wire cages outside, with up to five dogs per cage. Inside, dogs were exposed to high ammonia levels and kept in dirty, makeshift kennels with urine-soaked straw.
ARC Executive Director Tim Woodward stated, "Today’s rescue operation, aptly named 'Operation Lost Hope,' highlights that launching an animal rescue is not just about immediate need; it's also about building a foundation for a sustainable future where every rescued animal receives quality care and a loving home."
ARC transported all rescued dogs to their Rescue Center in Gallatin, Tenn., about 30 minutes east of Nashville. Each dog is receiving a thorough veterinary exam, vaccinations, and any necessary medical treatments before being matched with and transported to trusted shelter and rescue partner organizations in high-adoption areas for eventual adoption into loving homes.
In addition to the final deployment, ARC previously responded with two prior deployments, rescuing 21 dogs and providing care supplies, including pet food and an air conditioning unit, for interim care of the animals.
