Teen Arrested in Marshall for Fatal Shooting of 20-Year-Old

The Marshall Police Department arrested 18-year-old Curtis White, Jr. in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. The incident happened around 11:50 a.m. in the 100 block of E. Grand in Marshall. A white Nissan was stopped at a red light when a maroon vehicle pulled up alongside it. The driver of the maroon vehicle opened fire into the Nissan before fleeing the scene.

Both the driver and passenger of the Nissan were struck by gunfire. The passenger, identified as 20-year-old Markel May, died at the scene, while the driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. A second vehicle at the intersection was also hit by gunfire, but the driver was unharmed.

Witnesses provided descriptions of the suspect's vehicle and the events leading up to the shooting. The Criminal Investigation Division determined that White and May were known to each other. White has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Deadly Conduct Discharge of a Firearm, and Murder.

Additionally, a juvenile was detained in connection with the theft of a firearm in an unrelated case.
