A Tyler woman pleaded guilty to murder on Monday for the January death of her daughter in an intoxicated driving incident. Krystle Medeiros, 38, has been held in the Smith County Jail since her arrest on January 22, initially charged with intoxicated manslaughter following the car crash that occurred on January 4.
In June, a grand jury upgraded Medeiros’ charge to murder. In Judge Kerry L. Russell’s court on Monday, she pleaded guilty to this charge and accepted a sentence of 40 years confinement.
Medeiros was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer on State Highway 64 with her daughter, Kylie, as a passenger when she collided head-on with a Dodge Ram 1500. The crash resulted in injuries to Kylie that later led to her death. Medeiros’ blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was reported at 0.350.
