On Saturday, just before 5:00 P.M., an officer with the Cumby Police Department stopped a Chevrolet pickup truck on Interstate 30 near mile marker 110 due to a defective brake light and improper display of registration. During the interaction, Benjamin Andrews actively resisted when officers attempted to conduct a weapons pat-down.
A Cumby PD K9 unit was deployed and alerted to the scent of narcotics in Andrews' vehicle. Upon conducting a search based on probable cause, officers found a small bag containing a crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine in Andrews' pocket, along with other miscellaneous paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Andrews continued to resist as he was being escorted to the patrol unit. Ultimately, Andrews was transported to Hopkins County Jail and booked without further incident.
Benjamin Matthew Andrews, 47, of Greenville, Texas, was booked into the Hopkins County Detention Center on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1/1-B and Resisting Arrest.
