On July 12, 2024, at around 8:50 P.M., Irving Police responded to a disturbance at the TownePlace Suites Hotel located at 4800 Plaza Dr, near DFW Airport. The hotel clerk had requested assistance in removing guests due to ongoing noise complaints. While officers were en route, the situation escalated to a report of a shooting.
The incident involved a physical altercation between 19-year-old Cedric Campbell and two female guests. During the fight, Campbell allegedly shot one of the females, identified as 19-year-old Zenri McGee from Forney, Texas. Following the shooting, Campbell fled the scene but was later found and apprehended in a nearby drainage ditch.
McGee was taken to Baylor Grapevine Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Campbell has been charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He was initially held at the Irving Jail and was later transferred to the Dallas County Jail, where he remains on a bond of $1,200,000.
