A New Diana High School student, Amy Marzano, has died following a medical episode during a majorette practice session at the elementary school gym. New Diana ISD Superintendent Marshall Moore announced on Wednesday afternoon that Amy, who would have been a junior this fall, was transported to Longview Regional Hospital after experiencing a “medical emergency” during the morning practice session. Moore clarified that the emergency was not related to activity during the practice.
Amy was placed on life support but passed away at 2:53 p.m.
“Our hearts go out to Amy’s family, friends, and everyone who knew and loved her. She was a bright and talented young woman who will be greatly missed by our entire school community,” said Moore in a statement.
In response to the tragedy, the band hall will be open on Thursday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM for anyone who wishes to speak with someone about this event. Counselors and support staff will be available to offer assistance and a listening ear.
