Greenville High School Assistant Coach and Ex-Spouse Involved in Shooting Near School Grounds

On Tuesday afternoon, July 9, 2024, at Greenville High School. At approximately 1:33 P.M., 44-year-old Tekeysha Letoya McCloud, an ex-spouse of a Greenville High School staff member and assistant coach, arrived at the athletic facility and attempted to harm the staff member with a firearm, firing a single shot outside the Roy Q Traylor Athletic Facility. McCloud fled the scene after the shooting. A few hours later, Greenville ISD Police Officers, with the help of the Greenville Police Department, located and arrested her in the Dallas area.

Tekeysha Letoya McCloud, originally from Houston, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Carry of a Weapon in a Prohibited Place. Her bond was set at $105,000.

The identity of the Greenville ISD staff member involved in the incident has not been revealed, but Greenville ISD said he is now a former employee.   Greenville ISD said that the district does not tolerate any issues between adults that may pose a safety concern for other employees or students.

No students or staff were injured. 

Greenville ISD Superintendent Dr. Joe Lopez issued the following statement:

"We are relieved to inform you that through the diligent work of the Greenville ISD Police Department, the suspect involved in the incident at the Greenville High School Athletic Facility has been taken into custody by the Greenville ISD Police Department in the Dallas area.

Throughout this incident, the name and identity of the suspect were withheld to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation. This is standard protocol in circumstances such as these.

We appreciate the swift and professional response of all of the first responders involved. Greenville ISD, in conjunction with the Greenville ISD Police Department, will continue to take all necessary precautions to keep safety as a top priority."
